Mesothelioma
cancer is a rare malignancy affecting the lining of the lung or belly. Since
1960, the only cause of mesothelioma has been exposure to the product.
Asbestos is
commonly used in professional products, such as cement, brake linings, roof
shingles, flooring products and insulation. As little asbestos particles float
in the air, individuals may breathe in or swallow the contaminants, which lodge
in the lungs and cause serious health problems.
Asbestos
was commonly added to many professional and household products from the 1900s
to the 1980s. Unfortunately, individuals exposed to asbestos might not exactly
notice symptoms for quite some time. Possibly today, and despite limitations on
its use, the insulation continues to be used in heat and auditory insulation,
fire proofing, and roofing and flooring.
SYMPTOMS OF
MESOTHELIOMA
Mesothelioma
symptoms may well not appear until 31 to 50 years after your asbestos exposure.
Symptoms of
pleural mesothelioma, liquid accumulation in the lung area, include:
- Shortness
of breath
- Pain in
the chest
Symptoms of
peritoneal mesothelioma, fluid piling up in the abdomen, include:
- Weight
loss
- Abdominal
pain
- Abdominal
muscle swelling
- Bowel
blockage
- Blood
clotting malocclusions
- Low blood
count up
- Fever
Symptoms of
Mesothelioma in other areas of the body include:
- Pain
- Problems
ingesting
- Swelling
of the neck or face
The only
greatest risk factor for developing mesothelioma cancer is asbestos exposure
which increases as the amount of exposure and period of time of exposure
continues. Not every individuals exposed to the product will establish
mesothelioma, and some can develop the condition with no exposure to the
product.
Naturally,
early detection and diagnosis is key to successful treatment, particularly
since Mesothelioma progresses through different stages. At first, mesothelioma
is found in the torso cavity lining, the filling of the lungs or the abs cavity
coating. As mesothelioma progresses, it may spread to the lymph nodes,
diaphragm, or other organs and cells.
HOW
ASBESTOS EXPOSURE IMPACTS YOUR FAMILY
Some facts
suggests that family people living with individuals subjected to asbestos may
themselves be at increased direct exposure to possible developing mesothelioma
cancer, due to asbestos dirt carried home on the clothing and hair of asbestos
workers.
